More utility bills in Romania’s Iasi County can be paid through PayPoint Romania

Bucharest, 22 January, 2013 – People in Iaşi County, in the Moldavia region of Romania, are now able to pay for their sanitation services quickly, safely and free of charge, through PayPoint terminals in neighbourhood stores, following an agreement between PayPoint Romania, the main retail-based cash and mobile payments operator in Romania, and S.C. Salubris S.A., which provides public sanitation services in Iasi.

The service is available to all Salubris customers through all neighbourhood stores that display the PayPoint logo. Payment at PayPoint is simple, safe and convenient: the customer takes the Salubris bill to any shop with PayPoint, the shop assistant will scan the barcode on the bill and the payment is processed electronically in a few seconds. When the transaction is confirmed on the terminal, the customer hands over the value of the bill in cash and receives a receipt with all the details of the transaction on it (date, amount, location, service provider, etc).

As well as paying their Salubris bills through PayPoint terminals, people living in Iaşi can also pay their household bills, such as gas, electricity, mobile phones, internet and cable services, significantly reducing the amount of time they spend making these payments – at no additional cost. They can also top up the credit on their mobile phones and, in selected PayPoint shops, make money transfers.

Last year, more than 470,000 transactions were made through PayPoint in Iaşi County. This demonstrates that people living in Iasi recognise the advantages of paying bills through PayPoint terminals in local shops. At the same time, we aim to build on their trust in PayPoint by growing the terminal network and extending the services we offer, which is why we are delighted to announce this new partnership with Salubris,” said Mugur Dogariu, Managing Director PayPoint România.

Ion Apostol, General Manager of S.C. Salubris S.A., stated: “By signing tis partnership with PayPoint, we are offering our customers a convenient and safe method to pay their bills at the same time and places they do their daily shopping.”

There are 235 terminals in mini-markets, supermarkets and neighbourhood shops across Iaşi County, mostly with extended opening hours. Consumers can find their nearest stores on the company’s website, www.paypoint.com/romania.
