PayPoint Romania announce agreement with fiscal authority

PayPoint Romania, the main retail-based cash and mobile payment operator in Romania announces an agreement with the local fiscal authority in Sibiu, which will allow the collection of local taxes through the PayPoint network. This is the first agreement signed by the payments operator and a local tax authority for the collection of amounts owed by private individuals and companies.

From now on, using the terminals installed in convenience stores with the yellow PayPoint branding, Sibiu’s taxpayers can pay their local dues (taxes and sanitation) in any one of the more than 70 PayPoint partner stores in the city.

To make a payment, taxpayers must simply go to the nearest PayPoint store with the payment document; the attendant scans the barcode and the customer pays, in cash, and receives a receipt with all the transaction’s details (date, amount, name of the authority etc.). The whole operation is very quick and, in order to use the PayPoint system, consumers do not have to pay any additional fees or shop at the store. Sibiu’s residents can pay their taxes through a convenient, safe method, that’s consistent with their schedule, avoiding queues or extra trips.

"As we were saying last year, paying taxes through our terminals is an area of major interest for PayPoint and a priority in our growth strategy. Given an increasing need for alternative payment channels, truly accessible to many, PayPoint brings a practical solution, available to anyone. Studies we commissioned in 2016 showed that over 70% of those who use the PayPoint system wish to pay taxes through the system; in this context, the agreement with the Sibiu local tax authority marks a first step made by PayPoint toward meeting those needs. From now on, residents of Sibiu will be able to take care of local taxes as well with a single trip to their PayPoint store, a store with long business hours, usually open during the weekend too. We are confident about the success of this agreement and we assure our consumers we continue to make efforts for expanding the availability of this type of payments to as many authorities as possible”, said Mugur Dogariu, Managing Director PayPoint Romania.

Consumers have over 11.000 PayPoint partner stores throughout the country where they can make a wide range of cash payments, through PayPoint terminals: bill payments, mobile top-ups, money transfers, road tax payments etc. In the first half of the 2016-2017 financial year, PayPoint handled 32.6 mln bill payment transactions, 11.7% more than in the similar period of the previous year.
