Money Transfer made more convenient in Romania

PayPoint offers Western Union Money Transfer through local shops

Bucharest, February 8, 2012 - PayPoint Romania, one of the main cash payment operators in Romania, and Western Union®, a global leader in payment services, have teamed up to enable PayPoint retailers to offer their customers the facility to send and receive Western Union money transfers via PayPoint’s multi-function retailer terminal. PayPoint already offers a money transfer service with Western Union in the UK.

“Customers can now go to their local convenience store with a PayPoint terminal to send and receive money internationally or domestically within Romania, rather than have to travel to another town” said Mugur Dogariu, Managing Director of PayPoint Romania. “They will also be paid in the local currency, thus avoiding further aggravation of finding somewhere to exchange the money”.

“Being able to offer Western Union is a major benefit for PayPoint retailers as well: it enables them to provide a further valuable local service to their customers. It also brings in additional income from the commission they earn, generates additional footfall by attracting a whole new type of customer and encourages local spending.”

Declan Daly, Regional Vice President, Central Europe, said: “Western Union offers a fast, convenient and reliable service for millions of people around the world. Joining forces with PayPoint in Romania will ensure that the service is available to more people at the most convenient time and location, making it more convenient to send money to loved ones abroad and to receive payments sent to Romania.”

PayPoint is unique in Romania as it runs the Western Union service on its own terminals, which is provided free to PayPoint retailers, who do not have to invest in any additional equipment such as a PC. The service has been designed to be easy to use and intuitive to follow. The transaction takes only minutes to complete and, if the customer has a Western Union Gold Card time spent at the counter can be even shorter. The Western Union service will be progressively rolled out in the PayPoint network across the country, and retailers can apply now to PayPoint to offer the Western Union Money Transfer service on their PayPoint terminal.
